The Sicilian Puppet show: Rolando, Angelica and the others
The tradition of the “Pupi Siciliani” is rooted in the Sicilian culture from the XVIII
century., when different artisans (named “Pupari”) began to create marionettes
who represented the paladins of France and thus gave life to the facts of the “Chanson de Roland”.
The Teatrino of the Pupi Siciliani is an art show that has passionately attracted and fascinated, up to recent times, the little ones and the grown-ups; nowadays it is living a season of rebirth.
The most important traditions, that developed in the whole island, are in Catania and in Palermo.
Accompanied by a member of a family of pupari, it will be very interesting and amusing to:
~ visit a laboratory and learn the art of the creation of the marionettes, their characteristics, the tradition to which they belong;
~ behind the scenes, learn how “to give life” to the Pupi;
~ finally enjoy the show ...
